Get Your Kids Going With Kellogg's Mini-Wheats #TryItHot #Giveaway

While Spring finally seems to be coming around, we still certainly have our fair share of chilly mornings, especially here in Winnipeg.  I like to make sure my kids have full tummies to kick-start the day, and tend to think a bowl of hot cereal is just the ticket!  My kids love Kellogg's and always favour Mini-Wheats or Special K over anything else.  Getting them to try oatmeal is sometimes like pulling teeth!

Hot milk over Mini-Wheats means my kids stay toasty, fill up their bellies and are usually off to School with a little spring in their step.  (See what I did there?  Ha.)  We love being able to mix things up with different flavors of cereal or milk, using almond milk, etc.

We received this fantastic pack of Kellogg's cereal and an insulated, portable bowl and spoon to try out some great combinations of Mini-Wheats with warm milk.  I'm excited to be able to share the same prize pack with my readers!  One lucky winner will receive the goodies pictured below.

Contest is open to Residents of Canada, and will end on  March 29th, 2015.

Run Untangled With #Cordskinz Cord Protectors #Review

I've recently decided to start training for a local marathon relay, happening in June.  My brother twisted my rubber arm and it's just the motivation I need to hit the treadmill (and soon the streets!) hard, to get myself into shape before Summer.

When I run, I need fast paced and - well, I'll be honest - really loud, obnoxious and often totally inappropriate, not-safe-for-small-ears tunes.  Think Notorious B.I.G.  I guess I'm the nearly 34 year old mother of 2, who will never truly grow up.  I'm OK with that. ;)

Of course, this means when I run, I'm plugged in.  When I'm ready to go there is nothing, I mean NOTHING, more irritating than having to untangle my ear buds before getting my workout started!  The window of time I have between when I tell my kids I'm going for a run on the treadmill, and the time they start taking advantage of being left to their own devices is usually small.  (Go figure!)  I don't like wasting it fiddling with earbud knots.

I was pretty pumped to come across Cordskinz.  These are exactly what I need.  They slip on super easily and they do the job really well.  I've been "tangle free" for at least a week.  They protect the cords if you need to stuff them in your gym bag, or purse.  Plus, they're seriously so cute!  I'm a big fan of Neon colours.  Chalk it up to nostalgia or whatever, but even though I dress in neutrals about 99% of the time, when it comes to workout wear, the brighter the better in my books!  I was able to try out a pair of these babies in Neon Yellow and Lime Green.

Love them!!!

Cordskinz are available for purchase at www.cordskinz.com

Untangle your workouts!  So worth it.  :)

Butterscotch Rice Krispie Treats - Halloween Fun For Your Little Pumpkins! #RKHalloween

It's another rainy day here in Winnipeg, and quite cold outside too! So to keep the kids entertained, why not try a little Halloween themed baking project? These Butterscotch Rice Krispie Treats are just the ticket to happy kids and Halloween fun. Check out the recipe and what we did to celebrate the upcoming "holiday."

Butterscotch Treats Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package (10 oz., about 40) JET-PUFFED Marshmallows
  • OR
  • 4 cups JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons butterscotch flavor instant pudding & pie filling
  • 6 cups Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® cereal

Directions

1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Stir in pudding mix.

2. Add Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.

3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares, or use cookie cutters to make fun shapes!  Best if served the same day.

We had a great time putting these guys together -- and of course, eating them!  We inserted sticks into ours to make them into Rice Krispie pops, which always adds to the fun factor.  The butterscotch pudding really adds a unique flavor to the treats, making them extra yummy and a little special too.  The perfect (easy) activity for a rainy day!

Enjoy!

Bare English & Co. Lip Balm - New Flavor Launch and Set #Giveaway (2 Winners!) #Canada

With colder months on the horizon (don't get me started...) a lot of us are turning to skincare products that offer quality ingredients and extra moisture - with the cold tends to come dreadfully dry skin.  I always have several lip balm on hand to get me through the day, no matter what time of year it is.  So when I was given the opportunity to check out Bare English & Co. products I was pumped!  The balm boasts natural ingredients that are organic, fair trade and free of GMOs, as well as being Vegan and Cruelty Free!  What's more?  Bare English & Co. infuses each of their lip balms with tea, adding to its nutritional and healing value.

I LOVE this stuff.  With flavors like Vanilla Almond, Cucumber Melon and Cherry Berry there is something for everyone.  I gave one to each of my kids, who have been using them and enjoying them as much as I do.  The natural ingredients mean I can feel good about allowing my young ones to use it without worrying about what's going on their lips.  As for myself, I find balm perfectly moisturizing without being greasy or clumpy.  The packaging is great too.  It looks awesome, and the tubes are just the right size to slip in your pocket when you're running out the door.  It's my new go-to, and I will continue to purchase Bare English & Co. over other brands!

Want to check it out for yourself?  Bare English & Co. lip balm is available at Shoppers Drugmart, London Drugs and Rexall, in addition to other retailers.

There are 5 new flavors launching this month!  Soon you'll be able to try out the following:

Juicy Peach (infused with white tea)
Mango Acai (green tea)
Lemon Meringue (white tea)
Sweet Peppermint (white tea)
Chai Tea Latte (rooibos tea)

And lucky for you, I have 2 sets (2 winners) of the brand spankin' new Bare English & Co. Lip Balm flavors to give away.  These would make great stocking stuffers in a couple of months!  Contest is open to residents of CANADA.  Enter below.

Who Wants a Cookie? Celebrate National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day #NMVCCCDay #Recipe

Are you aware that today is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day?  Well, it is and I think that gives us all reason to celebrate with a cookie!  We were given bottle of Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract to bake up a delicious storm recently, in celebration of Chocolate Chip Cookie Day.  The kids and I decided that cookies are kind of a big deal, so it was time to go BIG or go home!  Here's what we did:

What?!  Yep, that cookie is the size of an entire cookie sheet.  And it was YUM!  Here's a copy of the recipe we used.  It should be noted that rather than spooning the cookies out one by one, we just pressed all the dough into the pan and baked for an additional few minutes until the top was golden brown, the scent of pure vanilla extract wafted through our home and those chocolate chips were lovely and gooey.  :)  I encourage you to do the same!

Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 ½ c. butter, softened
1 ¼ c. white sugar
1 ¼ c. brown sugar
1 T. Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
2 eggs
4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 ¾ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1-12 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate chips. (2 c.)

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix butter, sugars, vanilla and eggs in large bowl. Stir in flour, soda, salt, baking powder and cream of tartar. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop with a #40 scoop (looks like a metal mini ice cream scoop) or a rounded measuring tablespoonful about 2 inches apart onto an ungreased insulated baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly: remove from baking sheet. Cool on wire rack. Makes about 4 dozen crackly, chewy-crispy bakery-style cookies. They are wonderful!

Now, GO and enjoy a Cookie!  Have a fabulous day!

Sponsored: Share #Misfits Dog Treats With Your Furry Friend and Feed The Funny!

We have had our dog, Nova, for about 2 years now. I remember passing by the Humane Society as a family while running errands one day, and my husband mentioning that we should stop in to "take a look."  At the time, our son was still a newborn.  We wandered in, somehow knowing in the backs of our minds, that we would wander out with another new member of the family.

My husband and I had already discussed owning a dog one day.  I had grown up a cat person and as a child I was so afraid of dogs.  As I got older, I gained more appreciation for dogs and my husband has always, always loved them (and almost always had one of his owm.)  I didn't wish for my kids to know the same anxiety around dogs that I had.  So to me, it was a no brainer.  Introduce them to a puppy they could grow up with early on, and there's not a chance they'd  have the same fears I did.

We met all kinds of different animals that day, but when we sat down with a staff member they suggested one dog in particular.  Her name (at the time) was Mallory.  We met with Mallory and decided she was the one for us.  A German Shepherd Mix, she was gentle and seemingly very happy.  She was 11 months old, had already been well trained and was able to walk on a leash.  We adopted her then and there, and brought her home the next day.

Nova, as she's now known to us, has grown into my kids' best friend in the world.  When Little Man is afraid at night, he tells me Nova will protect us.  When the kids are feeling sick, they'll snuggle up with her under some blankets.  And for me, I hardly remember life without a dog!  She's wonderful to take out for walks, and provides a ton of entertainment.  She gets into far less trouble than the kids do!

We all love to spoil our furry family member with dog treats and I can not wait to try out MISFITS new line of dog treats!  Misfits come in such fantastic flavours as Scruffy Bites (in Steak & Poutine and Man n' Cheese flavor), Wonky Chomps (in Surfy Turkey and Cheeseburger) and Quirky Jerky (in Bacon & Peanut butter and Smoky Bacon Burger.)  Don't they sound fun?  Have a look at the Misfits Facebook Page to keep up to date with their latest products.

Top 10 Tips to Travel Smart With Your Smartphone #Telus #Infographic

With travel season in full swing, and a bunch of long weekends coming up, I know a lot of people are considering zipping across the border into the US for a fun filled, family holiday.  This is something my husband and I like to do often.  The shopping is great, it's a change of scenery and realistically for us (being in Winnipeg) it's a budget friendly, easy way to get the heck out of town!

Telus is now offering Enhanced Travel Passes to the US, Mexico, Cuba and the Carribean so that you can stay in touch with your family and friends back home, without going way over in data and roaming charges.  What a great idea!  They've also offered these 5 great tips for traveling with your smart with your smart phone:

There is some really excellent advice here.  I know a lot of people who've been caught off guard while on vacation, not realizing how much roaming was adding up.  And security is important, too.  When on holidays it's so easy to get caught up in the fun and forget to be safe with your belongings, especially if you're on a beach somewhere hot!  Setting a password is a great way to add a little extra protection in the event that your phone does get into the wrong hands.

Will you be getting away this Spring for a holiday?  What are your best travel-smart tips?

Getting My Breakfast On with #New Foods from Kellogg #Canada #Giveaway

Kellogg Canada is a brand I often turn to for breakfast foods and snacks. My kids are die hard fans of Original Special K cereal, which sits quite well with me because it sure beats any of those sugary, cartoon character varieties of cereal I grew up on!  As a part of the Kellog Canada bloggers network, I'm given the opportunity to try out the new products on a regular basis.  We're pretty excited about this!  The new line of snacks, cereal and shakes are really tasty.  Here's what you'll find on your store shelves now:

Strawberry and Apple flavoured Fruit Crunch bars, Kellog's To Go Breakfast Shakes, Protein Shakes, Chocolate Pastry Crisps, Chocolatey Red Berries Special K Cereal, and Special K Cracker Chips.

When the box of goodies arrived my kids (and my big-kid at heart husband) were quick to dive right in, so I apologize for the lack of photos!  The Pastry Crisps were gone so fast I didn't even have the opportunity to try the Cookies & Cream variety myself - although I'm assured they were extremely delicious, lol - but the Caramel flavour was all mine and I really enjoyed them!

Lucky for you, I'm able to giveaway a box just like the one we received to one lucky Born 2 Be Mom reader.  So if you're ready to get your breakfast on, then hurry up and enter below!  And good luck!

You can imagine my son's excitement when the box at our door had a nice, big colourful picture of Iron Patriot and Dr. Doom right on the front of it!  The kids asked if we could open the box right away, and that we did.  Both of my kids (and my daycare kids as well) had a great time connecting the different arms, legs and head pieces together to create their own Super Hero Masher!  These would make a perfect birthday gift for any little kid who's into Super Heroes.  My kids especially loved the little rocket attached to Iron Patriot -- It really shoots!  Here's a pic of our Mash Up.  The kids named him "Iron Doom."  He does look rather menacing.  ;)

How I Saved Bedtime #EczemaAndMe

Our bedtime routine has become a little longer, and a little more frustrating than usual lately. My husband and I will get our kids tucked into bed, with their cups of water, their "baby bunny" and
"giraffe blanket" respectively, and shut off the lights.  It usually doesn't take 10 minutes before one of the kids is wailing from their room "Mooooooooooom, I'm iiiiiiiitchy!!!"

Why?  It's not bug bite season, obviously, given the -40 degree weather we're having.  They've been vaccinated against chicken pox, so it's unlikely to be that.  No, it's their eczema.  Both of them have it, which is no secret here as I've written about it several times.  And this very cold, very long and very dry winter has been particularly hard on my kids' delicate skin.

My 2 year old son often walks around with his chubby little hands down the back of his pants.  It looks.... bad. lol.  I couldn't figure out if he was playing with his diaper, or what?  Then I went to bathe him and realized his lower back is just so incredibly dry that it's almost bleeding.  It's awful!  I now understand why I can't keep pants on my son.  When he tells me "they're just buggin' me, Mom" and proceeds to strip off his little jeans, he really means it.  His scalp has what looks like "cradle cap" - of course we learned from our doctor early on that in fact it's his eczema. Of all of us in the family, Little Man's eczema is by far the worst.

My 5 year old daughter's legs are so dry they feel like sandpaper.  Literally.  At bed time, it's usually the Little Miss that begins to call out... And I don't blame her.  If I forget to moisturize her skin that day, she gets so itchy that she can't stop scratching.  Her shins begin to look cracked and the skin just feels horrible.  We have to use moisturizer religiously to keep it under control.

Polysporin has released a new line of Eczema Essentials skincare products.  With the combination of all 3, that dry, itchy skin becomes much more manageable in as little as 3 days.  Included in the line are  a daily moisture cream, a special ointment and a daily cleanser.  I encourage eczema sufferers to try the combination, as with all 3, my husband and I have managed to make our kids a lot more comfortable -- we've saved bedtime!

“Disclosure: I am part of the the POLYSPORIN® Eczema EssentialsTM Blogger Campaign with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.”

Easy Peasy Patches: Review & Giveaway! (CAN, ends 01/17)

One of the things I'm finding now that my daughter is in school is that her clothes seem to wear out much faster than they used to.  I guess all of that time in gym class, out on the playground and sitting on the carpet for circle time is taking its toll -- although it's nice to see how busy she is!  School clothes can really add up cost-wise, unless you're able to hit the Sales on a regular basis.  So sometimes it's nice to just fix or patch up the holes in those jeans and put them back into rotation.

I was given the opportunity to review Easy Peasy Patches.  These are simple, no sew, no iron on patches that work great for patching up rips and holes in clothing, bags, outerwear or just to personalize a child's items for fun!

We loved the bright colours and fun designs, perfect for girls and boys alike.  I used a small Monster patch on my son's pants where he wore out the knees (2 year old boys -- you know how they are!) and have found it still going strong through several washes.  As for my daughter, we patched up a small tear in one of her solid coloured tops with a patch and it made the shirt look adorable and brand new again!  Love!

Up for grabs I am giving away $25 worth of Easy Peasy Patches for one of my Canadian readers.  Want to win?  Enter below!  Interested in checking out the website and picking up some patches for your own little monsters?  Check out http://www.EasyPeasyPatches.com

#ESETprotects - 6 Social Media Security Tips and Anti-Theft Advice

I grew up at a time when the internet was just becoming a "thing."  When I was 13, we got our first family computer in our home and one year later, my Dad connected it to an internet service.  At the time, nobody really knew or talked about the real dangers regarding privacy online, or how to protect yourself.  I was always told by my parents never to give out personal information like my address, phone number or my real name.  But young teens can be careless... I was careless.  I have stories -- many stories!! -- that I won't share today.  Needless to say, things were different back then.  There was no Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, or Instagram.  Social Networking consisted of online forums and chat rooms.  For a while, there was no such thing as a profile picture.  Nobody had a webcam.

Fast forward to 2013 and everything is drastically different.  Social Networking has become a huge part of a person's life and teens especially get caught up in over sharing.  I worry for these kids!  I KNOW the kind of trouble I used to get into, and I can only imagine if the technology available now was available back then.  My kids are too young to be involved in this yet, but as they get older, my biggest concern is their access to websites like Facebook, Twitter, and whatever will come next -- because 10 years from now when my little girl is 15, I'm sure there will be something "bigger" and "better."

So what can a parent do to protect their kids from the dangers of online predators?  There are a few simple precautions everybody can take to stay safe online, starting with securing your Facebook profile.   Remember that your network is only as safe as the friends you allow in it - so only add people that you know and trust in person. Follow these tips to make sure that you're doing everything you can to keep social networking online a fun and SAFE activity for you and your family!

1. Don’t give too much away...
Be careful how much you give away about yourself in your “About” profile (on the far left of your profile page). The more you add, the more an identity thief can learn about you straight away.
Many people like to say as much about themselves to make them seem more interesting. Resist this, your friends know how interesting you are! So no clues to your home address, mother’s maiden name, age or relatives should be given. You can add your phone number but this can be locked to
friends only or even just yourself and Facebook. It can be useful for Facebook to know your mobile number as they can use it to alert you of suspicious activity.

2. Keep your private stuff private
Facebook gives you the option to control your privacy settings, although by default it opens up your info to more or less anyone. So, let’s look at Facebook’s Privacy Settings in detail. These are found under the arrow at the far right of the Facebook window. Click on the arrow and then click the Privacy Settings tab. This opens up a menu bar that governs what Facebook can do with the information it holds about you.

3. Who can see your timeline?
Now go to Timeline & Tagging. This allows you to determine how much or how little of your timeline is seen by others and whether you want to be “tagged” or not.

4. Who can access your personal data?
This set of options is probably the most important on Facebook as it allows you to control what third parties can access to your Facebook profile

5. A Facebook friend is not forever
Unless you are using Facebook for marketing purposes, think about the actual ‘friends” you really want to connect with. For example that guy who you kind of knew in the your first dorm room? The random woman you once met on holiday. Do you have any idea what they are doing now? Are they trustworthy? When as the last time you heard from them?  You get the picture. A little pruning of the Friends list is a good idea every now and again. One more tip, don’t publicly announce holidays or other absences on Facebook and use Facebook email to communicate directly wth friends.

6. Set the controls on YouTube
This deserves a special mention simply because of the popularity of the video sharing site among teenagers. Like Facebook, Google states that no one under 13 should use the site. However the safest bet is to set up a child user account which will block any inappropriate content. You can also turn off comments to prevent your kids being abused or bullied by other users and stop them from doing the same. A quick review of the comments on virtually any YouTube video will demonstrate how nasty these can be – a practice known as “Trolling"

It's worth noting that ESET also offers a Social Media Scanner that can scan your profiles for malicious links and viruses.

Another issue we often have to worry about with the newest gadgets and laptops is theft.  ESET offers incredible (honestly!) anti-theft protection software .  I tested it out personally with my own computer, and the program will use the laptop's camera to snap a photo and then email you with the photo of the person using it, as well as web history showing you what sites they are visiting and any activity they are doing with your device.  Always remember to password protect your device, backup your data and to keep all sensitive data either encrypted or on an external device that can not be accessed.  To find out more about ESET's tracking software, go here.

So now that we've covered all of this, how would you like to try out ESET for yourself???  PTPA is giving away a subscription to one lucky person!  You can enter here:

Disney's SUPER BUDDIES #Movie #Review

How many Disney movie fans do you have in your house? Here at the B2BeMOm household, we all love our Disney flicks. Recently, we were given the opportunity to review the Super Buddies Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack. Here's some info about the movie, and what we thought of it.

Disney’s beloved and adorable ‘Buddies’ are back in a hilarious all-new movie for the whole family -- ‘SUPER BUDDIES’ debuts August 27, 2013, on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD.  An action-packed canine adventure, ‘Super Buddies’ stars the world’s most adorable talking puppies - Rosebud, B-Dawg, Budderball, Buddha and Mudbud, as caped crusaders em’barking’ on their biggest adventure ever.

An ordinary day at Fernfield Farms turns extraordinary when Budderball, Mudbud, B-Dawg, Buddha and Rosebud discover mysterious rings that grant them each a unique super power. Before you can say, “Buddies, assemble,” the pups unleash their amazing abilities and race to the rescue when a shape-shifting bully from outer space threatens the planet. But can they succeed in kicking major tail without revealing their new secret identities?

I knew my kids would LOVE this movie (which is, of course, what matters most) but I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it myself.  I won't lie, usually animal movies kind of irritate me!  However, I was so pleasantly surprised when I popped this DVD in, and sat down with the kiddos to watch it.  I found myself laughing a lot!  The characters are funny (especially Buddha who "oms" his way to a higher state of mind. lol. Love it.)  and the jokes definitely appeal to all ages.  My two year old son adored the puppies and just couldn't get enough.  My daughter thought the story was pretty cool too.  All in all, we found Super Buddies to be a great flick for the whole family!  Lots of giggles, a big adventure and a message about team work that's important for all to remember.

ESET Smart Security 6 - Protecting Your Family Online #Review #ESETprotects

Back to School is in full swing and as a busy Mom of two kids, I'm now getting accustomed to having one child in school full-time. While my daughter is only in Kindergarten, both she and my son have taken a strong interest in technology and connected devices just like their Mom and Dad. I'm careful to limit their time on the computer, but even my little man has computer and tablet games that he likes to play from time to time. And now that my daughter is older, she's beginning to see the value in the vast (endless!) information available online. She loves to learn!

All of this is well and good, but where does Online Security fit into the big picture?  As D gets older, she'll be doing school projects, there will be influence from friends telling her to check out certain websites, and of course there's the fact that kids are just naturally curious.  All of the supervision in the world won't protect kids from accidentally clicking a link that they shouldn't; And from that all sorts of issues can arise, from worms and viruses, to the obvious inappropriate content.  Yikes.

ESET Smart Security 6 is the solution to your security online, whether you're using a PC, smartphone or Tablet, ESET Security 6 covers all of your bases to ensure that your family is
protected.

Parental Controls
Parental Controls are easy to use on ESET to ensure that your kids are safe to do their research or games online without coming across web content they shouldn't, and to keep your computer or device safe from threats.  I liked that I was able to set controls based on the ages of my kids, giving a list of categories and websites they are allowed to visit, as well as inputting specific websites that are completely off limits.   If Facebook or Twitter are off limits to your 13 year old, but your 15 year old are allowed to use them - no problem.  Set it up for each user and you're good to go.  Do check out these Top Tips To Keep Your Kids Safe Online.  A valuable resource with great advice, especially going into the school year.

Anti-Phishing
Phishing email messages, websites, and phone calls are designed to steal money. Cybercriminals can do this by installing malicious software on your computer or stealing personal information off of your computer.  Cybercriminals also use social engineering to convince you to install malicious software or hand over your personal information under false pretenses. They might email you, call you on the phone, or convince you to download something off of a website.

As careful as most people are to avoid Phishing scams, it's all too easy to get caught up downloading a malicious file or giving information to the wrong person.  I am the kind of person who likes to enter contests, download music and just browse the net freely!  With ESET Security 6, I can feel free to do so.

ESET Smart Security 6 is a PTPA Award Winner.  I can't recommend this product enough, and I encourage you to try it out for yourself!  Right now, for a limited time, if you order ESET Security 6 here, you will be entitled to a promo code (at checkout) for 15% off.  Whatcha waiting for?  Purchase ESET Smart Security 6 now!

An Epic Coffee Spill, A Stained Couch and A Happy Mom #ResolveTip

Sometimes having kids can be messy business. Having a little boy (or as some like to say; "noise with dirt on it") under the age of 2 is incredibly messy business! Case in point: The day I almost lost my brand new couch forever and ever to the biggest coffee disaster known to humankind.

It was an early morning in our old house, this past spring.  I was sitting in the living room on my brand new, lush, incredibly comfortable dark khaki Microfibre couch, drinking my coffee and writing a blog post.  The kids were playing near by, staying reasonably well out of trouble.  I was rather relaxed and enjoying myself.

Then the phone rang.

Instead of doing what I now do EVERY SINGLE TIME I LEAVE MY SEAT, I left my coffee on the small wooden TV table I'd been resting it on and hopped up to answer the phone.

I'm not sure what it is about Mother's being on the phone, but I assume you know the drill here.  You get busy chatting on an important call, the kids start acting up immediately.  (Why is that, by the way?!)  So, naturally unprovoked, my previously calm little boy started to run.  Off he went, around the kitchen, through the dining room, the living room and then BAM!  Into my small wooden TV table with the cup of coffee resting on it.  For the record, I don't do small cups of coffee -- I like my coffee strong, and in large doses!

I looked up just in time to see coffee flying then landing across all 3 pillows, both arm rests, and the back of the couch, as well as our light beige coloured carpet.  I wish I could tell you how that's even possible.  It happened - and it was epic.

I could have freaked out, or cried, or gotten mad... But the fact is, it was my fault for leaving my cup there, and my son was just doing what little toddler boys do best - running around and having fun.  Although I knew the coffee wasn't that hot, I was just glad that none landed on him.  Then I went straight to Google, because I knew that this stain had to be dealt with properly, and it had to be dealt with fast!  Otherwise I wouldn't stand a chance of saving my beloved couch.

For the record, if you use extreme caution you can machine wash Microfibre couch cushion covers in your front loading machine on a very delicate, cold water setting. :)  I did this, then hung them to dry outside for several hours.  My couch survived!

I hope for your sake that you don't have a story like mine!  Realistically though, these minor disasters happen often in busy homes, and especially in homes with kids.  I could go on and tell you about spilled paint, grape juice, grass and mud stains, baby puke and more.. But what's important here isn't what causes the mess, it's how to clean it up!  Thankfully the RESOLVE Tip Exchange is here to help.

Have a stain fighting tip?  Share it and be entered to win one of 12 Weekly Prizes of $250 and the Grand Prize of $5,000!  Go forth, and be stain-free.  :)

Bacon, Mushroom & Swiss Steak Sandwich #Recipe #Weeknight Meal

I was scouring the fridge for dinner ideas the other day, when I came up with an admittedly awesome idea for a tasty sandwich. These are hearty, extremely good (if I do say so myself) and they're fun, too!  They make a quick and easy weeknight meal, but you could whip these up for guests in a heartbeat, if you're doing a casual BBQ or get together.  I would buy some fresh bakery kaiser rolls in that case, instead of the basic burger buns which I happened to have on hand.  Try them out for yourself!

BACON, MUSHROOM & SWISS STEAK SANDWICH

Ingredients:
1 Pkg. Bacon
1 Pkg. Sandwich Steak
Swiss Cheese
Button Mushrooms (A handful will do)
Baby Spinach
1 Bottle of BBQ Sauce (I like the Bulls-Eye Guinness)
Mayonnaise
Hamburger/Kaiser Buns

Directions:
Start out by getting a frying pan for your bacon, and fry until done.  I like 2 slices per sandwich, and I keep mine on the softer side for these particular sandwiches.  Set bacon aside.  Get out a second non-stick frying pan to cook your sandwich steak.  (You could BBQ too, but for the very short amount of time you'll be cooking, it may not be worth it.  This meat is so thinly sliced it cooks fast.)  Smother your steak in the BBQ sauce, grind some black pepper on top,  and fry it up for approx. 2 mins. per side.  The idea is to get both sides browned, and then get it off the heat.  If you over-cook, it will be chewy.  While the steak is in the pan, top with copious amounts of Swiss cheese, and let it get all melty and delicious.  :)  If your frying pan has a lid, pop it on now to help the cheese melt.

Toast your bun, then spread a thin layer of Mayonnaise on the top half.  Place your steak on the bottom half.  You may have to cut it in half to fit.  Add your bacon, then top with chopped mushrooms, and Spinach.  Add the top bun, and you are set!  Now, chow down and feel good about yourself because you just made a sandwich that consists of all 4 food groups and is a meal in and of itself.  Whoot!  (Of course, if you're like me you may want to throw in a side or two.  We were feeling extra indulgent that day so we went with Curly Fries, but a simple salad would be fantastic too!)

Enjoy!
