Before my little miss was born, I remember walking through the fabric store and picking out
some wonderful flannel prints for my Mom, so she could sew receiving blankets for her soon to be first grandbaby. She made so many, and we used them and used them - they were my favorite baby "accessory." The great thing about having a large stash of receiving blankets is how multifunctional they truly are.
Disney Baby agrees and they've come up with a great list for all of the clever things you can do with this baby necessity! Make sure you always keep one or two spares in the diaper bag, just in case.
7 Great Uses for Receiving Blankets
USE #1: Nursing cover
Lightweight and easy to fold up and store, receiving blankets make excellent nursing covers. Tie a knot in one corner and rest it over baby’s head to help keep the blanket in place. Plus, when you’re done, a slight adjustment turns it into a....
USE #2: Burp cloth
Throw a receiving blanket over your shoulder to wipe your baby’s face and protect your clothes from post-feeding spit up.
USE #3: Coverlet
If your baby is chilly, receiving blankets are the perfect way to add a quick layer. They can also be used to soothe your little one, as something to hold, snuggle or chew.
USE #4: Changing mat
Receiving blankets make great changing mats, especially when you’re out in public. Simply fold the blanket and lay it down on a flat surface to create a soft, easy-to-clean changing station.
USE#5: Play mat
Lay a blanket on the ground to give baby a clean surface to play on. If your little one is playing with lots of toys, keeping them on the receiving blanket also helps to make clean up a breeze: just gather the corners together to pick everything up at once!
USE #6: Sunshade
Drape a receiving blanket over the front of your stroller to create instant shade, or block the sun from your car by tucking one into the top of the window. In both cases, the blanket will cut the glare and help keep baby nice and cool.
USE #7: Dress-up
When your baby is a little bit older, you can use your receiving blankets in play. Throw them in the toy box, so your little one can use them as veils, capes, scarves or to swaddle their own baby dolls.

Looking back to when my daughter was born, I remember spending hours scouring pics online, looking at products and deciding how I was going to decorate the nursery. I remember being 6 months pregnant and bursting into tears (thanks crazy hormones!) to my husband because we hadn't started on her room just yet. I wanted it done! And I know a lot of other Moms are the same way.
We painted my daughter's room a beautiful shade of green, because I hoped that she'd have a sibling one day and they would end up sharing for a while. I loved the colour, I loved everything about it. When we sold our house, the only thing that made me sad was saying goodbye to my kid's beautiful bedroom - and all the amazing memories and milestones that went along with it.

5 Tips for Decorating Baby's Room
1) Choose a style that’s unique to baby! If you give yourself a focus, it’s much easier to create a cohesive design. You could start with some fun wall art as an inspiration and use that to determine your colour scheme. Or pick some bedding you love and build the room around that. 2) Create a nifty-nursing station. Set up a table near a comfy chair, and keep it stocked with necessary supplies like baby-safe hand sanitizer, nursing pads, nipple cream, burp cloths and paper towels. Receiving blankets like this Winnie the Pooh set are always great to have on hand – they can be used as burp cloths, coverlets, and to keep your baby warm.
3) Get creative with storage. With a new baby occupying a room, storage may be limited, so get creative. Add a cute bed skirt to your crib which allows you to hide boxes or supplies. Or buy a multi-bin organizer, so you can store books, toys, and clothes in one convenient location.
4) Set the mood with lighting. The nursery should be a soothing space where your baby can fall asleep easily. Try putting your overhead light on a dimmer, or buying some small accent lamps to minimize harsh lighting. This Winnie the Pooh night light is another great way to provide safety and comfort – especially during late-night feedings.
5) Leave Room to Grow – because they will! Remember that your baby won’t be a baby forever. It’s helpful to choose decorations that are easy to update or change as your baby grows up, so your baby’s room can grow up too.
