Music has been an important part of my kids everyday lives since birth. As an infant, I would put my daughter to sleep listening to soft lullabies. Both of my children love watching their Dad play his electric guitar -- things can get pretty LOUD around here and the kids are so used to it, it doesn't phase them! On any given day, you can find my kids dancing to Pearl Jam or Soundgarden while my husband is playing, singing along to one of the Barbie DVDs (Little Miss D) or singing We Are Never Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift (My 19 month old Mr.L) or playing a rock stars themselves and just making up their own tunes!
Watching my kids learn, and grow to appreciate music the way they have has been a joy. My husband and I have always encouraged playtime and music, and with good reason.
A 2011 study of parents with children age 1‐5 Years reveals that among children that listen to music during playtime: 55% of children are happier when music is coupled with play; 50% are more excited to play when they hear music and 43% act sillier when music is coupled with play.
This month, we were able to enjoy some of the Lego Duplo Jams that were sent to us. The kids had a great time dancing and singing along! Watching as the music sparked their creativity was really neat. We hauled out the Duplo sets and let the kids do their thing! My daughter built a home for her little dolls, and my son as always was happy to just stick a few pieces together here and there while pushing his "car" around that we built together. :) That boy and his cars......
What kind of music do your kids like? Do you often play some tunes during playtime?
